Sissonville, WV Electrician for Farmhouses, Hillside Homes and Local Businesses

Built along the Pocatalico

Sissonville is not a city. It is an unincorporated part of northern Kanawha County that runs along the Pocatalico River, Sissonville Drive and Interstate 77, and it takes in Guthrie, Pocatalico, Millertown and the hollows along Derricks Creek, Second Creek, Tuppers Creek and Kanawha Two Mile. For most of its history it was a farming community. Today it is mostly a place where people who work in Charleston come home to a little more land.

That mix shows up in the houses. We see old farmhouses that have been added onto three or four times, 1960s and 1970s ranches, mobile homes on family land, and newer homes on the ridges off the I-77 exits.

What we find in Sissonville homes

Older farmhouses were often wired one room at a time. We regularly find ungrounded outlets, fuse boxes or early breaker panels that are full, splices buried in walls, and long runs out to a barn, shop or well pump that were never sized for the load. Detached garages and outbuildings are common here, and many of them are fed with undersized wire or have no proper grounding.

We start by checking the service, the panel and the circuits you lean on most. Then we tell you plainly what needs attention now and what can wait. When a panel needs replacing, we install Eaton or Schneider Electric equipment, pull the permit and schedule the inspection.

Flood history and storm outages

Sissonville has been hit hard by flooding, with major floods in 1998, 1999 and 2000. If water ever reached your basement or crawl space, the panel, outlets and wiring down there should be checked. Low-lying homes along the creeks are a good fit for raising outlets and equipment above past water lines when we do other work.

Ridge-top homes have a different problem: long rural lines and trees mean outages. We install Kohler standby generators and portable generator setups with an Interlock Kit or a transfer switch, so you can run the well pump, furnace, fridge and lights safely.

EV chargers, shops and big loads

More Sissonville families are adding a Tesla Wall Connector or ChargePoint Home Flex, a hot tub, a heat pump or a welder in the shop. Before we add a big circuit, we run a load calculation so it does not overload the rest of the house. If the service is too small, we will price a panel or service upgrade up front, before any work starts.

Commercial work along Sissonville Drive

We also work for small businesses, churches and shops in the Sissonville area: lighting upgrades, new circuits for equipment, emergency and egress lighting, and panel replacements. We use Leviton and Lutron devices and controls where they fit the job.

AEP service and solar PV inspections in Sissonville

Because Sissonville is unincorporated Kanawha County, we can perform third-party inspections there. We offer Appalachian Power service inspections for new and upgraded services ($200) and residential solar PV inspections ($400), which include the WV Small Generator Facility Certificate of Completion. Learn more on our electrical inspection page. Note that we do not perform inspections inside the Charleston, St. Albans or Hurricane city limits.

Licensed and locally owned

Atlas Electric is a locally owned electrical contractor led by a West Virginia Master Electrician (license M2306001089). Our contractor license is WV064889. We do residential and commercial work, pull permits when the job needs them, and clean up before we leave. Nearby we also serve Poca, Elkview, Nitro, Cross Lanes and the rest of Kanawha and Putnam counties.
