Huntington has one of the oldest housing stocks in the region, with about three in ten homes built before 1940. Atlas Electric is a locally owned electrical contractor led by a Master Electrician (license M2306001089), and we work on Huntington homes, rental properties and commercial spaces.

Huntington was founded as the western terminus of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway and grew fast after the line was finished in 1871. Census figures put the median Huntington home at 1955, and about 30% of homes were built in 1939 or earlier, far more than in most nearby towns. Another quarter or so were built in the 1940s and 1950s.
On the Southside, the Ritter Park Historic District holds Colonial Revival, Craftsman and Tudor Revival homes built mostly between 1913 and 1940, and brick foursquares from that period set the pattern for much of the city's 1920s housing.
Homes this old have often been rewired in pieces. It is common to find a newer panel feeding a mix of circuits from different decades, outlets without a ground, and kitchens and baths that were remodeled without enough circuits. Plaster walls and finished trim also make rewiring slower than in newer homes, so planning matters.
We trace what is there before recommending anything, explain what needs attention now and what can wait, and work to keep plaster and trim damage to a minimum. When a panel needs replacing, we install Eaton and Schneider Electric equipment and pull the permit.
With Marshall University in town, about half of Huntington's homes are renter occupied, according to Census data. Landlords and property managers call us for interconnected smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, GFCI protection, panel replacements between tenants and circuit repairs. For businesses, we handle tenant improvement wiring, LED retrofits, equipment circuits, commercial EV chargers, and emergency and egress lighting.
Plaster walls, Ritter Park era trim and wiring added in pieces over a century take patience, and we plan the work to keep damage to a minimum. Atlas Electric is locally owned, holds WV Contractor License WV064889 and is led by a Master Electrician (license M2306001089). We work for homeowners, landlords and businesses, and we pull permits when the work needs them.
