Dunbar is a compact city on the Kanawha River where most of the homes are now 70 years old or more. Atlas Electric is a locally owned electrical contractor led by a Master Electrician (license M2306001089). We help Dunbar homeowners keep older wiring safe and add the circuits a modern household needs.

Dunbar was incorporated in 1921, after glass and bottling plants opened in 1912 and turned a farming area into a working town. Census figures put the median Dunbar home at 1955. More than half the housing was built between 1940 and 1959, split almost evenly between the 1940s and the 1950s, and about one home in eight is older than that. Very little has been built since 1990.
With so many houses from the same two decades, we see a lot of the same setups across town: small original panels, a single circuit feeding several rooms, and add-on wiring from past remodels.
Many Dunbar homes were built before grounded outlets were standard and long before anyone ran a microwave, air fryer and coffee maker on the same counter. If breakers trip when the kitchen gets busy, or if you are tired of adapters on every outlet, the fix is usually new circuits and grounded, GFCI protected outlets rather than bigger breakers.
We look at the whole system first. If the panel is full or worn out, we replace it with Eaton or Schneider Electric equipment and pull the permit. If it still has life, we tell you that too.
Roughly six out of ten Dunbar households heat with natural gas, and more are adding central air or heat pumps. Both mean new load. So does an EV charger in the driveway. Before you commit to any of them, we can check whether your service and panel have room, then size the circuit properly.
For backup power, Atlas Electric supplies and installs Kohler standby generators and installs portable generator inlets with interlock kits. Read more on our generator installation and EV charger installation pages.
We are a local company, not a call center. Atlas Electric holds WV Contractor License WV064889 and is led by a Master Electrician (license M2306001089). With so many Dunbar homes from the 1940s and 1950s, we know the small original panels and shared circuits you are likely to find, and we do the work to code with permits where needed.

In many older Dunbar homes, one or two circuits serve the entire kitchen. Adding dedicated circuits usually solves it. We check the panel first to make sure it has room.
Sometimes. We check your service size, panel condition and existing load, then tell you whether you need a panel upgrade or just a new circuit.
