A Level 2 charger turns overnight charging into something you never think about. Getting there safely depends on the circuit behind it. Atlas Electric installs EV charger circuits and Level 2 chargers for homes and businesses around Charleston and the Kanawha Valley.

Most EVs can trickle charge from a standard 120 volt outlet, but it is slow, and older or shared outlets are not built for hours of continuous load. A Level 2 charger runs on a 240 volt dedicated circuit and charges much faster. Because EV charging is a continuous load, the breaker, wire and outlet or connection all have to be sized for it. Shortcuts here lead to tripping, overheating and damaged equipment.
We install Tesla and ChargePoint chargers. If you have not picked one yet, we can help you choose a charger that fits your vehicle and your panel. Already bought one? We can install the charger you have.
Before adding a charger, we look at your existing service size, open breaker spaces and the big loads already in the house, like HVAC, an electric range, a dryer, a water heater or a hot tub. If there is not enough capacity, the options include a panel or service upgrade, load management, or setting the charger to a lower output. This matters in older Charleston and South Charleston homes with smaller services, and it matters in newer, all-electric homes in places like Hurricane, where the panel can already be close to full.
If Appalachian Power is your utility, it is worth looking at their EV programs before you install. Appalachian Power's West Virginia off-peak charging program can lower the cost of charging at night and on weekends, and it may require a separate EV meter and meter base installed by a licensed electrician before the utility sets the meter. They have also offered incentives for qualifying Level 2 chargers. Program rules change, so check current details with Appalachian Power or TakeChargeWV.com, and let us know if you are planning to enroll so we can set up the install to match.

Call or text 681-322-3294, or send us a message on the contact page, with your vehicle and charger model. The estimate is free. We check where the charger will go and how much room your panel has, then send a written, upfront price.
You can trickle charge from a standard outlet, but it is slow and many existing outlets are not meant for hours of continuous load. A dedicated Level 2 circuit is safer and much faster for daily driving.
Both work when installed correctly. Hardwired installs are cleaner and support higher output. A NEMA 14-50 outlet gives you flexibility to unplug or swap the charger. We help you pick based on your charger and how you use it.
Not always. We check your panel's capacity first. If it is short, options include a panel or service upgrade, load management, or a lower charger setting.
